Moses Parts the Red Sea

Our JAM class was packed with energy today as we explored the story of Moses and the parting of the Red Sea! After our story (made way more exciting by the song "Pharaoh Pharaoh" and this awesome free foldable), we had 3 choices:

-Make It: Because God let his people walk across dry land, or sand, we explored with sand art today! We had two versions of sand art: making a vial to put in a necklace, and spelling the words "DRY GROUND" with sand and glue. They went crazy for the sand!

-Act It: We started out using these billowy blue "waves" as the Red Sea with stuffed animals standing in as Moses, God's people, and Pharaoh's army. We acted out the story as Moses prayed to God, who responded by parting the waves. I think this really helped to visualize what was meant by "parting the seas," because they definitely thought the sea just dried up. They had tons of fun with drowning Pharaoh's army, too!

-Play It: Instead of the balloon game I'd planned, we had so much fun with acting in the waves that our game today just ended up being us taking the place of the stuffed animals! The kids loved strutting across the parted "sea" and, of course, drowning in it as Pharaoh's army!

God bless!
